Superb soulful jazz quintet Derek Willie – Free Air

Superb soulful jazz quintet Derek Wille – FREE AIR:  If you’ve been looking for an album that has superb soulful jazz, you’re going to love this upcoming release from Derek Wille… it’s been a while since I reviewed his solo piano on “An Approaching Storm“, where he got high marks from these old ears.  To get a taste of the broad range of styles that Derek performs in, check out this video first…

You’ll find many other intriguing videos when you SUBSCRIBE to Derek’s YouTube channel, too… I’ve been there for years now.

Recording on the new release is crystal-clear and flawless… besides Derek’s dynamic bass playing, you’ll hear Michael Bowie, Steve Sachse, Jeff Antoniuk doing sax/flute, Rob Holmes on baritone sax, Al Williams’s sax, Andy Kushner on trumpet, Wes Crawford doing drums/percussion, Bob Margolis’s guitar and Arturo Yee on guitar… of the eleven exciting tunes offered up, it was the upbeat and funky “Hoot-N-Bobo” that captured my vote for personal favorite… the sax just SMOKES on this song!

This excellent album officially releases on 23 October, 2023; check it out NOW at the SoundCloud page, linked in below… it comes MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from me, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00 – meaning that it also gets a “PICK” from me for “most dynamic jazz album of 2023“..
