dramatic dynamic jazz excellence Chuck Owen and Resurgence – Magic Light

dramatic dynamic jazz excellence Chuck Owen and Resurgence – MAGIC LIGHT:  On Chuck’s upcoming release (26 April, 2024), you’ll be thrilled by the dramatic dynamic jazz excellence he and his players provide… here’s an exciting preview of the album…

If you enjoyed that (as much as I did), you’ll SUBSCRIBE to Chuck’s YouTube channel right away, where you can enjoy several other performances.

The player list is exciting in itself… as well as Chuck’s beautiful piano (and other keyboard) work, you’ll hear KATE McGARRY vocals, SARA CASWELL violin, JACK WILKINS saxophones, COREY CHRISTIANSEN guitars, MARK NEUENSCHWANDER bass and DANNY GOTTLIEB and Matt Wilson on drums – all folks who have appeared in our pages over the last 30 years.  I was especially impressed by the moving and emotional “We Rise“… a 6:34 absolute jazz gem… the group’s energy absolutely SHIMMERS on this tune!

On my first run through the album, I found it easy to make my choice for personal favorite of the eight exciting jazz excursions… the 10:52 “Apalachicola” is the kind of lazy-slow jazz/blues I’ve always loved, but when Chuck’s organ pairs up with Corey’s stunning guitar solos at the 3:21 marker, I couldn’t help but get on my feet and slide around my listening studio – simply BEAUTIFUL blues/jazz, folks… this tune should (DEFINITELY) win an award.

I give Chuck and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99.  Get more information on the Origin Records page for the album, or on Chuck’s Spotify page (below).
