Jaded jazz journeys Voi!Maa! – Voi!Maa!

Jaded jazz journeys Voi!Maa! – VOI!MAA!:  I first encountered (many of) the players on this new album when I reviewed “Diaspora Focii” from Feral Luggage… there are even deeper jaded jazz journeys here, featuring Adriane Pontecorvo – cello, percussion; Kersti Abrams – alto saxophone, mbira, north-african reeds, flutes; Elijah Pontecorvo – bass; Mark Pino – drums, water-phone, percussion and Mika Pontecorvo – guitar, flute, voice, electronics… to get a taste of their strangeness, watch this video first, please…

There are a lot MORE exciting performances available when you SUBSCRIBE to the Mika Ponte YouTube channel

A note first… you should definitely put yourself in an isolated listening space, WITH your headphones on before you sit down to listen to this album… the opener alone is over 24 minutes… the song, “Tässä Ei Nyt (Here Not Now)“, is among the “trippiest” I’ve listened to (yet) in 2021… a truly amazing improvised journey that I fell in love with (and you will, too)!

There’s a slightly slower pace on the 12:16 “Kylä Vuotti Uutta Kuuta (Waiting for the moon)“, but it abounds with strange sounds that will transport you OVER the moon… this song alone is worth the purchase of the album.

It was easy to make my choice for favorite of the four (extremely long) performances offered up… “Hengittää – Earth’s Breath” gives you deep and moving insights into the nature around us… an absolutely beautiful song that merits consideration for an award in the “roots noise folk” category!

I give Voi!Maa! a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99.  Get more information on their BandCamp page for the album.           Rotcod Zzaj
