Contemporary beginnings and soaring fusion magic Gary Muszynski – Roots & Wings

Contemporary beginnings and soaring fusion magic Gary Muszynski – ROOTS & WINGS:  Most of the readers who visit our pages know that I am always on the lookout for music that transcends boundaries and gives us all new perspectives for our future together.  Gary has put together a collection of contemporary beginnings and soaring fusion magic that does exactly that… before I critique the songs, I strongly recommend that you watch Gary explain what the new album is all about…

I also (definitely) recommend that you SUBSCRIBE to Gary’s YouTube channel, where you’ll find more intriguing performances (and hopefully many more to come soon)… I signed up right away.

One of the phrases I picked up in my research for Gary’s music is “Acoustic World Jazz“… when the players blend that all together with the sounds of our environment, amazing sonic experiences happen, as you’ll hear on the wonderful “Laughing Cloud”… a pretty simple tune, but packed with love for a departed friend… the 4:50 length of the piece will make it a perfect choice for DJ’s (of all stripes) ’round the globe, I predict!

When you look up the definitions of contemporary (belonging to or occurring in the present) and fusion (a merging of diverse, distinct, or separate elements into a unified whole), you’ll find that’s precisely what Gary and his players have created on the intriguing closer, “Shifting Sands”… a merging of musical cultures and influences across the universe that will reach deep down into your soul and calm it amidst sometimes terrifying changes and chaos… be sure you listen to this performance with your headphones on… there are some absolutely beautiful vocal passages that will hold you totally spellbound, folks.

By now, you might be thinking – “why is he writing so much”… I’ll tell you right now, it’s because the 8 years that Gary spent putting this wonderful album together merit any and all words I can forge to convince you that you need this one, folks… since I’m a pianist (of sorts) myself, I was absolutely fascinated by “Yemanja”… Omar Sosa’s keyboard is full of surprises, yet completely accessible, and you will feel the magical and sultry movements of the sea on this song… if any performance merits consideration for an award, this is IT, people… if I were on the panel, it would WIN, to be sure!

There is always a song that stands out for me and winds up being my choice for personal favorite… on this album, it happens to be the longest performance on the album… on “Hidden Meadow”, after a beautiful bass intro with the sound of crows masterfully mixed in, the song emerges into a “call/response” kind of atmosphere, then takes you on a marvelous musical journey like none you’ve ever experienced… flawless recording and perfect “pacing” make this a song you will be listening to over and over (and OVER) again.  It was this tune that made me also choose it for (permanent) placement on my iPhone player (something that rarely happens with acoustic or New Age albums).

I give Gary and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00 – meaning that the album also gets a “PICK” from me, for “most amazing acoustic world jazz”.    Get more information on Gary’s page for the album.               Rotcod Zzaj
