Forever musical friendship Mark Winkler and David Benoit – Old Friends

Forever musical friendship Mark Winkler and David Benoit – OLD FRIENDS:  It’s been a bit over a year since I reviewed Mark’s ultra-hip “I’m With You” release… he’s just finishing up a brand new CD highlighting the forever musical friendship he has with pianist David Benoit (it will go live in February, 2021)… you can check them out as they record it…

If you dug their hipness as much as I did, you will want to be sure you SUBSCRIBE to Mark’s YouTube channel, so you can check out ALL the performances and albums there.

One of the coolest songs on the album (& believe me, this duo is the ULTIMATE in cool) is their rendition of Peter Allen’s “When This Love Affair Is Over” (samples will come later, when I’m told they’re live)… I fell in love instantly with the fantastic organ on this track… DJ’s of all stripes will be plugging this tune in for repeated airplay on stations ’round the globe!

The song that Al Jarreau made famous, “Better Than Anything”, is like putty in Mark’s most capable hands, supported most ably by David Benoit’s piano, drums from Clayton Cameron, bass by Gabe Davis and guitar from Pat Kelley… you’ll be finger-snappin’ & toe-tappin’ all up & down the block as you dig down deep into this 3:52 gem.

It was the upbeat opener, “I’ve Got Just About Everything”, that got my pick for personal favorite of the thirteen tunes offered up for your jazz joy… these cats will bring you up out of whatever funk you may have been in when you first started listening!

I give Mark, David & all the players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this jaunty jazz adventure.  Get more information on Mark’s website as it becomes available.                           Rotcod Zzaj
