Wonderful collaboration of Brazilian jazz John Finbury – Sorte!

Wonderful collaboration of Brazilian jazz John Finbury – SORTE!:  Brazilian singer-songwriter-actress Thalma de Freitas is joined by an all-star set of players (Vitor Gonçalves – piano, Rhodes & accordion; Chico Pinheiro – guitar; John Patitucci – bass; Duduka da Fonseca – drums; Airto Moreira – percussion and Rogerio Boccato – percussion) in a wonderful collaboration of Brazilian jazz from John Finbury… as always, the VERY best way to be introduced to musical winners like this is to watch them LIVE – in this case, Thalma and the band performing the opener & title track, “Sorte!“…

…absolutely SWEET, folks… be sure to SUBSCRIBE to John’s YouTube channel, too, so you can watch more great performances.

I loved that opener, but I also found the 5:12 “Oração” to be totally intriguing… partially because it opens with sounds of the rain forest, but also because the recording and execution are pure perfection… I have no doubt that this tune will achieve HIGH spin levels on jazz stations ’round the world!

A sense of true serendipity courses through each of the songs, & the mutual birth dates of Thalma and John in May on the song “Maio” just can’t be a coincidence… they were meant to work together.

Since I’m a keyboard player, it was certainly a no brainer that my personal favorite of the six sultry songs offered up for your jazz listening pleasure would be the 4:49 closer, “Surrealismo Tropical“… absolutely one of the most haunting jazz tunes I’ve listened to (yet) in 2019!

I give John & the players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this splendid album.  Get more information on the Green Flash music label site.           Rotcod Zzaj
