skilled straight ahead jazz guitar Doug MacDonald – The Sextet Session

skilled straight ahead jazz guitar Doug MacDonald – THE SEXTET SESSION:  I’ve been reviewing each and every release from Doug for many years now.  On his newest release, due out on 1 March, 2024, you’ll hear why the skilled straight ahead jazz guitar he plays for us is such a favorite.  Here’s a (much) older video that will give you some nice insights of his playing…

You’ll want to make sure you SUBSCRIBE to Doug’s YouTube channel, where you can watch a lot more of his super-cool performances.  (I’ve been subscribed there for years now).

In addition to Doug’s stellar guitar work, you’ll also hear Doug Webb – tenor sax, Aaron Janik – trumpet, Josh Nelson – piano, Mike Gurrola – bass, and Charles Ruggerio – drums… songs like the 4:02 opener, “Desert Blues“, will have you up on your feet and dancing ’round the room in only seconds… Doug’s sax is fantastic on this tune!

It was absolutely Mike’s bass intro that caught my ear on the lead-in to the 10:48 “Si Miner“… there was no doubt that this would be my choice for personal favorite of the eight exciting jazz adventures Doug and his pals offered up… some of the best jazz guitar leads I’ve ever heard from Doug on this song.

I give Doug and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this superb album.  It’s already up on Spotify (below), so check it out right away.
