Robin Spielberg engaging piano solo performance Robin Spielberg – Columbia Theatre, Longview Washington, live show review

Robin Spielberg engaging piano solo performance Robin Spielberg – COLUMBIA THEATRE, LONGVIEW WASHINGTON, LIVE SHOW REVIEW: I first began reviewing Robin’s wonderful music over 20 years ago (issue # 24), and though she had performances near me over those times, I was just never able to watch her perform live… as you might imagine, when I realized that I was finally going to be able to meet her, I was in “high anticipation” mode… & this is all on the heels of her latest release, “On The Edge Of A Dream“, which got very high marks from me.

I drove down to Longview, Washington around noon on the 10th of March, and she pulled up a couple of hours before the performance, which was really excellent, because it gave us time to “hang” together a bit…

Robin introduced me to the Executive Director of Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, Gian Paul Morelli, pictured below with Robin in the restored theater section (a fantastic story in & of itself, which you will hear more about later this summer)…

Robin is a highly talented piano artist, but she is also a wonderful person, pure joy to talk with… she also is very supportive and encouraging to young players, as you can see in the picture below, taken just after her performance…

Just before the show, we took a couple of shots together with Robin “all dolled up“, as she said… (beauty and the beast, to be sure, lol)

The most important part of getting together with a performer, though, is the music… Robin’s talent on the ivories far exceeds the “norm”, but another thing that sets her apart from other players is her storytelling ability… on all the compositions she played for us, she “set the song up” with stories of how the song came about, or how it developed… truly priceless, & it brought back memories of my own “First Dance”…

Her explanation for the song below was much longer than you’ll see in the clip, and clearly showed her wonderful sense of humor for all to enjoy…

I am truly pleased to have had the opportunity to meet Robin in person after all these many years, and look forward to seeing her again, perhaps at the Zone Music Reporter Awards show, which I’ll be attending this year.  My thanks to Robin for making my time with her so memorable.
