* RobertThiesDamjanKrajacic marvelous enchanting piano flute * Robert Thies & Damjan Krajacic – BLUE LANDSCAPES II – DISCOVERIES:  I am particularly interested in piano work that is improvised, and Robert’s superb keyboards are just that… when you pair his talent up with Damjan’s excellent flute work, you have a sonic experience that will keep your ears on edge at all times.  That’s especially true on tunes like the freedom-filled “Across the Open Fields“…  the recording is superb, and you will feel just like you’re a young sprite again, dancing through the amber waves of grain with unparalleled abandon and joy… not a complicated song, but full of the spirit of life and living – I loved this one!

Can their music be considered “jazz”?  That’s doubtful, though their combined energies make that a non-issue anyway… since my primary criteria for reviews here is the level of energy on display, it was (very) easy to decide that their music needed to be reviewed here, no matter what genre it might be… above all, the fact that these are improvised songs makes it worth listening, and as I listen to the duo on the insightful and inspiring “Dawning of New Worlds” (one of the longer songs on the album), it’s clear that there are no “pigeonholes” that fit what Robert and Damjan are creating here… I just loved the piano on this one, and the flute will help you to travel to new dimensions without the aid of ANY substances – a natural high (and my own trials with substances & subsequent therapies tell me there is NOTHING better than a musically induced state of bliss)… a wonderful and spiritual 8:24 experience.

Both of these players came from musical families (as did I), and there’s no doubt in my mind that had major influences on their perceptive and talented playing… if you listen to my personal favorite of the fifteen songs offered up for your aural pleasure, the 8:25 closer, “Dreaming“, you will hear why I enjoyed their work together so much… their changes are totally fluid and transparent, but your mind will achieve that calmness we all desire when realizing our dreams… this tune is, without doubt, one of the best examples of the creative process I’ve listened to (yet) in 2017.  I give Robert and Damjan my MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this award-worthy album.  Get more information about the players and the album on Robert and Damjan’s page for the release.         Rotcod Zzaj
