* calabriafoti stunning coleporter tribute jazz * Calabria Foti – IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT:  Believe me, I’m an expert on Pacific Northwest rainy Saturday mornings… & I’ll tell you right now, there’s nothing that improves my view up here more than splendid vocal jazz like Calabria has put together on her third album… the tune that struck me first for the mellowing-out process is her 4:11 rendition of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes”… it certainly doesn’t hurt that she’s joined by high-talent players… Eddie Daniels – clarinet; Gene Bertoncini – guitar; Michael Patterson – piano; Richard Locker – cello; Jared Schonig – drums and Bob McChesney – trombone… & Bob’s trombone on this one is pure perfection as a compliment to Calabria’s vocal!

One thing in the promo sheets really impressed me… Calabria also plays violin, and that really “cinched” it for me… singers who can also play are (always, in my personal opinion) better able to “feel” a song, and when you listen to the sultry tones Calabria wraps you in on “So In Love“, you’ll hear the song in a new light… sexy, sexy, folks; in fact, a quote from Calabria said – “If I had to use one word to describe this record, it would be ‘sexy’.”  She knows exactly when to increase pitch/volume to ensnare you in her beautiful web!

Of the eleven songs offered up for your jazz pleasure, it is the airy & light mood on “It’s Alright With Me” that (hands-down) got my choice for personal favorite… even with the gloomy clouds outside my window, I am transported to new heights each & every time I listen to this one.  I give Calabria & her musical friends a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.98 for this excellent performance of Cole Porter songs.  Get more information on Calabria’s page for the release.          Rotcod Zzaj
