Masterful saxophone led jazz Mark Turner & Gary Foster – Mark Turner Meets Gary Foster

Masterful saxophone led jazz Mark Turner & Gary Foster – MARK TURNER MEETS GARY FOSTER:  This great hour+ double CD features masterful saxophone led jazz from alto saxophonist Gary Foster and tenor saxophonist Mark Turner (joined by Putter Smith on bass and Joe LaBarbera on drums), and will WOW your ears (as they did mine, to be sure).

Though I couldn’t find any LIVE videos of Mark & Gary together, you should still SUBSCRIBE to Mark’s YouTube channel, where you can find many scorching hot performances.

Only one of the tunes is less than ten minutes in length, so you will hear each of the players displaying their total expertise, especially on tunes like the 11:47 “Lennie’s Pennies“, authored by Lennie Tristano, one of the three jazz heroes they are honoring with this CD… plenty of time for each of the players to shine (no samples are available at this time; I will come back and add them when I’m told they are available).

The opener, “Background Music” (by Warne Marsh), gives you over 12 minutes of sheer sonic pleasure… Putter’s bass walks you (very pleasantly) through the entire piece, complimenting each of the other players with full-bodied & well-recorded jazz beauty!

My personal favorite of the seven tunes offered up is (without question) the band’s 15:03 rendition of Lee Konitz’s “Subconcious-Lee“… in fact, if you listen to it with headphones on (as I did), you will find the song coming back to you over & over again as you travel ’round; an amazing and intricate performance that will be getting jazz station airplay for years to come.

I give Mark, Gary & their players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this most memorable (and collectible) release.  Get more information, and purchase the double-set on Capri Records page for the album.         Rotcod Zzaj
