Jeff Dingler scintillating jazz bass Jeff Dingler – IN TRANSIT: From the very first note of the very first bar, Jeff’s bass drives this stellar jazz group to new heights and fresh destinations… as you listen to that opener, “Bati Celebration“, you’ll realize (in the immediate moment) that Jeff’s quest to Ethiopian styles with NYC jazz is a total success… he released it on 17 September, 2017, and if you haven’t heard it on your local jazz station – you soon WILL… without even listening past the first track, I perceived that this will be a SMASH HIT in the jazz world!
He’s joined by some very high-energy players – Brad Shepik (guitar); Lou Rainone (piano); Gusten Rudolph (drums) and Josh Bailey (percussion tracks 1, 3, 6, 8)… when the compositions are originals, I believe they will strike new emotions in listeners ’round the world, because the players have much more invested in the outcome than when playing “other folks’ music”… one of the best examples of just how well that works that I’ve heard (yet) in 2017 is the high-spirited and driven “Merkato Navigation“… the tune only clocks in at 4:12, so I’ll be hitting the replay button on my iPhone player in the car… & yes, Jeff’s already earned a permanent slot there with this “on-fire” track.
There are eight tunes bubbling with the joy that’s to be found in straight-ahead jazz, and it was easy to pick my personal favorite… the 6:29 closer, “Way Home”, fuses a distinctive blues flavor with Jeff’s wonderful bass lines and some stellar percussion to create a piece that lures you in, and will keep the hold firm until the very last note! I give Jeff and his superb players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00 – meaning that he also gets my “PICK” for “best bass-led jazz”!
