Jazz vocals from the past that ARE the future Rebekah Victoria – SONGS OF THE DECADES: Rebekah’s jazz vocal performances dig down deep into the past, and what she comes up with for your entertainment are jazz vocals from the past that ARE the future! For some very revealing insights into the making of the CD, view the trailer below…
…a very nice video that lets you know what Rebekah & her players are all about… though she doesn’t appear to have her own channel, if you go to this YouTube search, you’ll find a lot of her performances there.
This is another release from our friends at Patois Records, including esteemed jazz trombonist Wayne Wallace (who we’ve been reviewing for many years now)… as you listen to Rebekah’s magical transformation of the ’70’s pop song “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” into a SOLID jazz hit, you’re not gonna’ believe your ears… this one is H-O-T, folks, with some FUNK-EE licks that will get your hips movin’ & shakin’!
If you’re looking for something just a tad more on the mellow side, you’re going to totally enjoy her performance on “After You’ve Gone”… after her laid-back vocal intro, she’s joined by an absolutely sweet & swingin’ clarinet backup… too cool.
When you want things to be upbeat & hip to the point of getting your ol’ saddle shoes out, you’ll have lots of fun (as did Rebekah & the band) with “Opus One/Undecided”… though it’s from 1943, she makes it very 21st Century swingin’, to be sure!
It wasn’t difficult (at all) to make my choice for personal favorite… “Twisted” digs right down deep into the talent that Wayne has for making Latin jazz come ALIVE for the listener… I predict this winner will be getting some MAJOR airplay, too.
I give Rebekah & all her players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98. Get more information on Rebekah’s Jazzkwest page. Rotcod Zzaj
