Hot original saxophone jazz Brian Scanlon – Brain Scan

Hot original saxophone jazz Brian Scanlon – BRAIN SCAN:  Brian’s hot original saxophone jazz is new to my ears, but he’s been “on the scene” for many years as a “session” player… his new debut album features eight original compositions, as well as a unique take on “Harlem Nocturne“; all in all, one of the most satisfying jazz albums I’ve listened to (yet) in 2019.

There aren’t live videos there (just the tracks from the new album), but you should still SUBSCRIBE to Brian’s YouTube topic channel to hear the songs; it would be nice to see a few live recordings for the next release.

After the intro to the 4:47 “I Hear Something“, the tune catapults into one of the hardest swing tunes, with Brian’s superb reeds pushing you right on into orbit (some GREAT piano work on this one, too)… I believe this song will be getting some MAJOR airplay on jazz stations ’round the globe!

If you just can’t do without high-energy jazz, you’re going to love the opener, “Brain Scan“… the players are totally together; some of the tightest playing I’ve heard in a long time… the recording quality is just superb.

In addition to Brian’s alto and tenor sax, you’ll also hear Tom Ranier – piano (2,5,6,7); Ed Czach – piano (1,3,4,8,9); Trey Henry – bass; Peter Erskine – drums; Andrew Synowiec – guitar (3,4); Larry Koonse – guitar (7); Avery Scanlon – guitar (1,9) and Joey De Leon – congas, and they just SMOKE IT on my personal favorite of the nine sonic wonders offered up for your jazz joy… the closer, “Scandalized”, will bring back mem’ries of all those “Film Noir” movies you love… packed with emotion!

I give Brian and his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this excellent release.  To get more information about this fantastically talented player, visit the Brian Scanlon website.           Rotcod Zzaj
