Exciting complex comprehensible jazz Shijin – Theory of Everything

Exciting complex comprehensible jazz Shijin – THEORY OF EVERYTHING:  I was, quite simply, amazed when I reviewed the first Shijin album two years ago… what you’ll find on the new release is some of the most exciting and complex, yet comprehensible, jazz you will ever listen to… the best way to start is to watch one of the trailer videos they put up for the song “Implosion” from the album..

If you’re even a little bit into music that challenges the norms, yet stays in territory you can understand, I most strongly encourage you to SUBSCRIBE to the Shijin YouTube channel, where you’ll find more excerpts from albums as well as live performances.

The 8:13 “Golden Age” gives plenty of time for each artist (Laurent DAVID : Electric Bass – Stéphane GALLAND : Drums – Stéphane GUILLAUME : Saxophones, Flutes, Bass Clarinet – Malcolm BRAFF : Piano, Rhodes, CP70) to explore their own interpretation of music that’s all-encompassing and full of life!

A tune that has a lot of emphasis on Malcom’s piano on the intro, segues very, VERY nicely into an upbeat & funky piece on the closer, “Curved Wrinkles“… what’s ultimately cool about this tune is the MOVEMENT… it’s definitely got “that GROOVE”.

Of the eight exciting performances offered up, it was (without question) the Rhodes-heavy “You Are Here” that got my vote for personal favorite… the music just swirls in celebration… this track will be getting LOTS of airplay, I predict!

I give Shijin a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this excellent sonic journey.  Get more information on the Alter-Nativ label as it becomes available.                           Rotcod Zzaj
