Downright greasy groovin’ jazz Beat Funktion – Roots

Downright greasy groovin’ jazz Beat Funktion – ROOTS:  I can tell you right now that this fantastic group just SMOKES it… the players (Olle Thunstrom: tenor sax; Johan Öijen: electric guitar; Daniel Lantz: fender rhodes; Pal Johnson: electric bass; Jon Eriksson: drums and Karl Olandersson: trumpet) will absolutely KNOCK your SOCKS off!  The best way to realize why I say that is to watch them in this video from October, 2019, in lively performance mode:

…there are TONS more videos from the group, as well as their albums, so be sure you SUBSCRIBE to the Beat Funktion YouTube channel… I been subscribed there for a couple years now.

My most recent review of their work was for their “Green Man” album, & it got high marks to be sure; “Roots” is their 7th album, and they just SMOKE it on tunes like “Big Chang” (the samples will go live within the next week or so; official release date is 29 November, 2019)…this piece has got that downright greasy groovin’ jazz vibe that all of us love, and Johan’s guitar solo at about the 3:04 mark will MOVE you, folks!

The beautiful keyboard intro for “Keso’s Breakfast” segues ever-so-nicely into the kind of lilting jazz groove that will have you snappin’ fingers & tappin’ toes… I expect this one will be getting some MAJOR airplay on stations ’round the globe.

The opener & title track, “Roots“, uses swirling electronics in, under, around & through the 9:28 composition to transport you to dance-land in fine fashion… a truly impressive song that is truly cutting-edge!

My personal favorite of the nine (long) songs offered up is also the longest cut on the album… “Pugnose” actually earned the whole album a permanent placement on my iPhone (& that doesn’t happen for very many releases)… full of life, with recording quality that just won’t quit… & in case I didn’t mention it, this is going to be pressed to vinyl as well.

I give Beat Funktion a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, as well as a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00… that means that it also gets my “PICK” for “funkiest album of 2019”!  Get more information about this truly global band on the Beat Funktion website!             Rotcod Zzaj
