Absolutely stunning all original debut Igor Kogan – In A Big City

Absolutely stunning all original debut Igor Kogan – IN A BIG CITY:  I’ve been doing my “review thang” for a bit over 30 years now, yet I continue to be amazed by the music that comes my way… in no case is that more true than on this absolutely stunning all original debut from bassist, composer and bandleader Igor Kogan… to get a view of just what he and his players have cooked up for your aural enjoyment, first check out the trailer/promo video they made for this album…

…since you’re already there, I would most strongly advise that you SUBSCRIBE to Igor’s YouTube channel, where you’ll find many more live video performances… I did it right away.

Igor’s fantastic debut release features Igor on bass, of course, and he’s joined by some very high-energy players as well… Jeremy Lappitt – tenor saxophone; Joshua Aguiar – trumpet/flugelhorn; Marco Apicella – piano; Matthew Baker – drums and Tierney Sutton – vocals on track 8… the visuals you will be immersed in as you listen to the continuous movement on “Emergency Call” will simply blow you away (samples aren’t out yet, but I’ll link them in when I’m told the album has “gone hot”, right around the 25th of August, 2020)… I predict that jazz DJ’s around the globe will put this in constant rotation!

If your mood is a bit more in the “mellow zone”, I have no doubt that once you listen to the beautiful “Illumination”, you’ll be coming back to it often… again, the imagery conveyed just shimmers with life.

It wasn’t difficult (at all) to make my choice for personal favorite of the nine stirring originals Igor offers up… “New York Blues” has that kinda’ “slinky” vibe that all great blues songs need… it brought back many mem’ries of my own late-night forays in & around The Big Apple!

I give Igor and his splendid players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with a (perfect)  “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00… this means, of course, that he also get a “PICK” from me for “best original jazz”.  Get more information on Igor’s website.                        Rotcod Zzaj
