Ultra hip award winning jazz Jamie Lawrence – New York Suite

Ultra hip award winning jazz Jamie Lawrence – NEW YORK SUITE:  Jamie’s jazz is extraordinary… he plays some of the most professional keyboards you will ever listen to, and will make you feel like you’re “uptown” all the way… he’s a New York native, and you’ll hear that influence shining through on tunes like “Margot with a “t”“, a tune he wrote for his wife… this excellent composition also features a rare appearance on tenor saxophone by Eddie Daniels… a full-bodied tune, with very succinct timing and great interplay between all the great players.

Jamie’s striking piano intro on “Beluga Triangle” is followed by some of the most emotional jazz I’ve heard (yet) in 2018… this one will reach right down to the depths of your soul and wring out feelings you thought were long gone… if any jazz composition merits an award – this is IT, folks!  The “point/counterpoint” style of playing on this piece makes you feel like you’re listening to a heavy-duty conversation between all of the players (which, in a sense, you are)!

Jamie is an award-winning musician, having five Emmy Awards and one Clio award under his belt… you’ll hear why when you listen to the 6:13 closer, “Tongue Twister“… a truly diverse and dynamic performance that will have your hips swingin’ & toes tappin’… I really dug this piece.

Jamie brought in some very talented players for these songs… far too long to itemize here, so check out the list on the CD BABY page for the album… as you listen to the 21:21 title track, “New York Suite“, you’ll hear their brilliant abilities shimmering through on my personal favorite of the five aural adventures Jamie and his crew offer up for your jazz listening pleasure… though the piece is “composed”, you’ll feel a definite sense of freedom and improvisation – and they know exactly what the KEY element in great jazz is – FUN (which they have plenty of as they play this winner)!

Though this album clocks in a bit shorter than many I receive, it’s a most memorable jazz experience… I give Jamie and all his folks a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of a (perfect) 5.00… meaning that it also gets my “PICK” for “most energized jazz album of 2018”.  Get more information about this gifted composer/player on Jamie’s website.          Rotcod Zzaj
