There’s no question but that Laurent’s artistry will be compared to other bass giants like Jaco Pastorius or Jonas Hellborg, but his playing style is so uniquely “his own” that you’ll very soon realize that the beauty of his music is in the spirit he uses to entice your ears into the oblivion he creates with pieces like “Big Foot” (samples will be linked in as soon as I’m told they’ve gone live); heck, the changes on this tune alone make it well worth the purchase of the album! Of the ten tantalizing tunes Laurent offers up for our aural pleasure, it was easy to choose the intimate contrasts and cross-tones of “Rebel By Nature” as my personal favorite… this is deeply moving music, with both the sensitivity of classical and the total freedom of improvisation… the spell he creates is the ultimate in precision, and will captivate you immediately… I just LOVED this composition!
