Rich DeRosa robust rewarding jazz Rich DeRosa – Perseverance

Rich DeRosa robust rewarding jazz Rich DeRosa – PERSEVERANCE:  This eight-song jazz wonder features some of the best jazz compositions and arrangements you will ever hear… Rich’s arrangement of Billy Strayhorn’s “Take The “A” Train“, for instance, is as “cool” as the original… but, if you click on the link, you can read Rich’s entertaining little story about how his arrangement of the song came to be.

Though I couldn’t find any “current” videos of the longest song on this release, “Suite For An Anniversary“, here’s a 2015 performance at UNT of one of the most powerful pieces of big-band jazz I’ve heard in a very long time…

…I don’t know about you, but I got chills running up and down my spine as I listened to (& watched) this!  If you need something to encourage the jazz student in your household… show them this one – or, better yet – buy this album for them!!

It wasn’t difficult (at all) to pick a personal favorite from the eight wonderful songs offered up… the title track, “Perseverance“, clocks in at 7:35, and under DeRosa’s skilled direction, spans the whole range of emotions that can be involved in seeing something through… a most inspiring song!  I give Rich, the UNT Orchestra, and all associated with this project a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.99.  Get more information on the CD Baby page for the album.   Rotcod Zzaj
