legendary adventuresome bass Gerald Cannon – Live at Dizzy’s Club – The Music of Elvin & McCoy

legendary adventuresome bass Gerald Cannon – LIVE AT DIZZY’S CLUB… THE MUSIC OF ELVIN AND MCCOY:  Pure jazz joy as you listen to legendary adventuresome bass from Gerald Cannon and his players on this upcoming (January 19th, 2024) release.  The video I chose shows Professor Cannon playing LIVE with McCoy several years back…

Talk about “roots” and “heritage”… players like Gerald have (definitely) walked-the-walk… there wasn’t a dedicated video channel, but you can learn more about this fantastic bassist on his Oberlin Conservatory page.

Along with Gerald’s graceful and soulful bass playing, you’ll also hear pianist Dave Kikoski, drummer Lenny White, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, alto saxophonist Sherman Irby, trumpeter Eddie Henderson, and trombonist Steve Turre… there was no doubt in my mind what my personal choice for favorite would be of the eight exciting tunes offered up… “Blues In The Minor” features fiery performances from each of the players – it clocks in at 11:16, though, so kick back and enjoy!

Gerald’s composition, the 6:36 “Three Elders”, starts off slowly with horn and drums emphasized, then morphs into one of the sweetest jazz tributes to giants I’ve ever heard.  If you’re a true jazz lover, this album is a “MUST-HAVE” for your collection.

Get more information on Gerald’s Spotify as it comes closer to the release date.  I give Gerald and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this superb jazz adventure.
