Highly intoxicating imaginative jazz vocals Moy Eng – The Blue Hour

Highly intoxicating imaginative jazz vocals Moy Eng – THE BLUE HOUR:  As I listened through this highly intoxicating and imaginative jazz vocal CD for the third time, I was just totally blown away by Moy’s total talent, and you will be too!

Readers who are regulars here will know that I got my start in performance via spoken-word and poetry, so when I encounter poets who also have a clear ability to combine their words with music, I’m absolutely happy… as you listen to Moy’s vocal on the 4:51 “Sleepless In Paris“, you’ll realize that even though this is a debut release, Ms. Eng is already in the “master class“… so sweet… I just love this tune (and the sheer artistry that went into it).

Moy and one of our favorite jazz players, Wayne Wallace (four-time GRAMMY-nominated trombonist), collaborated with full energy on songs like the opener, “Filthy Gorgeous“… what really makes the tune stand out is that Moy’s lyric isn’t like a “poem” at all… it’s more like a “story”, and (therefore) comes across as a “real song”… I predict that this one will be getting some MASSIVE airplay on jazz stations ’round the globe!

If you’re looking for something that fits well into the “jazz/rock” arena, you’re going to love the 4:37 “Wild Plum“.. this one (immediately) earned a spot on my iPhone playlist, & will be staying there for a good long while.

Of the ten aural adventures offered up, though, it is the beautiful “Alpha Girl” (jointly written with Wayne in 2010) that gets my vote for personal favorite… Moy’s (and the players’) talents just SHIMMER on this tune!

I give Moy’s performances a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this splendid musical adventure.  Get more information on The Blue Hour project page.          Rotcod Zzaj
