High energy exciting jazz Matt DeMerritt – Fool’s Journey

High energy exciting jazz Matt DeMerritt – FOOL’S JOURNEY:  All I can say is – WOW!  Matt’s Tenor, Alto, Bari Saxophones, Flute, Vocals and Agogo just blew me right out of my SEAT… absolutely high energy and exciting jazz on this superb album.  You can scope out the entire album on the Matt DeMerritt – Topic channel on YouTube

Matt’s strong playing on this album earned it a spot on my iPhone player immediately (and that doesn’t happen often)… the tune that really made that was “Wellspring“… full-bodied jazz, and unique, too… it starts off with a sort of chant/vocal thing that makes you think it’s going to be different, but right at the :34 mark, the keyboard and bass set it up so the horns can ROLL ON in… this tune will absolutely be getting HEAVY airplay, folks!

The player list is just too long to itemize here (you can view it on the BandCamp page for the album), but they are totally engaged, and just RAWK out that jazz on tunes like the upbeat and driving “Elixir“… again, Matt just kills it with his sax solo… ultra-hot.

Limbo” is the tune that I chose as my personal favorite of the eleven offered up (just over an hour’s worth of music)… this is an original from Matt, and the 8:28 length gives both the players and the listener an opportunity to explore what happens when great players explore a bit… a truly SOLID jazz song!

I give Matt and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99.  If you’re in love with reed jazz, you simply MUST add this album to your collection.  Get more information on Matt’s website.                Rotcod Zzaj
