exciting 21st Century jazz Dave Schumacher & Cubeye – Smoke In The Sky

exciting 21st Century jazz Dave Schumacher & Cubeye – SMOKE IN THE SKY:  There’s no need to be smokin’ any of that “funny stuff” while you listen to the exciting 21st Century jazz that baritone saxophonist Dave and his mates provide for you on his upcoming (12 April, 2024) release… here’s a short preview of the band performing the title track live in-studio…

You can enjoy many more live video performances when you SUBSCRIBE to Dave’s Cubeye YouTube channel, too.  I signed up right away, and will be thriving on all his videos there.

You’ll hear Dave on baritone saxophone, of course, as well as Josh Evans – trumpet, Jesus Ricardo – trumpet, Peter Brainin – tenor saxophones, Manuel Valera – piano, Alex “Apolo” Ayala – bass, Mauricio Herrera – congas and Joel Mateo – drums… you’ll be just as impressed as I was with the 7:22 “El Dilema de Chegüi Metralla“; absolutely one of the most enjoyable jazz listens I’ve had (yet) in 2024!

It was Cubeye’s performance of a McCoy Tyner tune (arranged by Dave), “Walk Spirit Talk Spirit” that most strongly impressed these old ears, though… this 11:05 jazz gem will have you spinning the song over and over (and OVER) again, folks.  Manuel’s piano is simply amazing, and each of the players gets their opportunity to SHINE… the drums and percussion really stand out on this performance, as well.

I give Dave and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99… this is one of those albums that’s destined to become a “classic” in the jazz halls.  You can pre-order either digital or CD version on Dave’s Bandcamp page for the release below.
