Excellent experimental jazz Ben Zucker – FIFTH SEASON: We get a fair amount of improvised jazz every now and then, but this new release featuring Ben Zucker – Vibraphone; Mabel Kwan – Piano; Eli Namay – Upright bass and Adam Shead – Drums is one of the better ones, to be sure… although I didn’t find a “LIVE” video from this June, 2020 album, here is one that will give you an up-close-and-personal view of their playing together…
…I’m already a big fan of Ben’s work on the vibraphone… if you want to see and hear more, be sure you SUBSCRIBE to Ben’s channel on YouTube.
Some of you may not know it, but I used to perform in groups very similar to Fifth Season, so I’m automatically inclined to fall in love with the very well paced improvisation on “Moths Eating The Wallpaper Of Concorde“… it’s the longest song on the album, so I recommend you kick back with your headphones on & get ready for this intriguing sonic adventure!
Absolutely stunning drum and percussion intro on “Fifth Season II“… keeps the entire 8:44 performance moving; when the bass and piano kick in at about 1:11, get ready to cruise the outer edges for a most interesting ride.
It was (without question) the “jazzy” influences on “Fifth Season IV” that made it my personal favorite of the eight (long) songs offered up for your experimental excursion… this is, in fact, one of the best improvisation performances I have heard (yet) in 2020!
I give Fifth Season a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99. Get more information on the group’s BandCamp page for the release. Rotcod Zzaj
