The arrangements by Chris and bassist Chuck Archard (by the way, the players are Chris Rottmayer: Piano; Chuck Archard: Electric Bass; Keith Wilson: Drumset and Ashley Locheed: Voice) are very unique, especially on tunes like “La Vie En Rose” (Life In Pink)… soulful, full of life and perfect for DJ’s looking for a four-minute song to begin (or close out) a show!
The title track, “So In Love“, opens the album with a sense of vibrancy not often achieved on albums of this nature… it had me snappin’ my fingers and tappin’ my toes through the entire length of the song.
Their rendition of Johnny Mercer’s “Day In, Day Out” will thrill listeners who love vocal jazz… Ashley’s vocal on this track made it an “instant hit” for me; Chris’s keyboard chops are fully in evidence on this tune, too!
I didn’t have to listen through the album more than once (though I actually scoped it out three times) to decide on my personal favorite of the eleven exciting performances offered up… “Something So Right” by Paul Simon gives each of the players the opportunity to shine – and they definitely do that.
