Cool cherished jazz Joe Chambers – Samba De Maracatu

Cool cherished jazz Joe Chambers – SAMBA DE MARACATU:   You can look far & wide, but you won’t find a multi-instrumentalist of Joe’s caliber these days… on his upcoming Blue Note release, he plays drums, percussion and vibraphone, alongside stellar bandmates Brad Merritt on piano, synthesizer and Steve Haines doing bass… absolutely the kind of cool & cherished jazz you’re needing to hear… I didn’t find a unique channel for Joe (hint! hint!), but you can get an up-close-&-personal view of his style in this groovin’ video by Kevin W Thorbourne

It’s always a given that my personal preference runs towards originals by the artist, and Joe’s masterful skills are perfectly demonstrated on his original title track, “Samba De Maracatu” (right now, that’s the only sample available, as the album doesn’t officially release until 26 February, 2021)… superb percussion, drumming and vibes from Joe and his bandmates makes this a tune that I predict will be getting some MASSIVE airplay for months & years to come!

The group’s performance on Karl Ratzer’s “Sabah El Nur” is absolutely flawless, and will have you gettin’ right on DOW-un with your finger-snappin’ & toe-tappin’ self over & over again… the ultimate in cool.

Of the nine (long) songs offered up, it was easy to make my choice for personal favorite… Joe’s original, “New York State Of Mind Rain”, features some of the hippest spoken-word intertwined with superb percussion and drums from Joe!

I give Joe & his bandmates a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00… that means that Joe also gets a “PICK” from me for “best multi-instrumentalist jazz album”.  Get more information on the Blue Note pre-order page for the album.                                 Rotcod Zzaj
