Colorful swinging original jazz Schapiro17 – Human Qualities

Colorful swinging original jazz Schapiro17 – HUMAN QUALITIES:  When I reviewed Jon Schapiro’s “New Shoes/Kind of Blue at 60“, I was very impressed with their debut… I’ll tell you (right now) that the colorful swinging original jazz on Jon’s new release is even better… since the album doesn’t officially release until March, 2021, you won’t find videos (yet – hint! hint!) on the Schapiro 17 topic channel, but I do recommend that you SUBSCRIBE there.

On to the album… 7 originals from composer/arranger Jon with his 17-piece jazz orchestra… players include trumpets: Bryan Davis, Andy Gravish, Eddie Allen, Noyes Bartholomew trombones: Alex Jeun, Deborah Weisz, Nick Grinder, Walter Harris saxophones: Rob Wilkerson, Candace DeBartolo, Paul Carlon, Rob Middleton, Matt Hong piano: Roberta Piket; guitar: Sebastian Noelle; bass: Evan Gregor; drums: Jon Wikan – & they SMOKE it on piece like Jon’s “A Bounce In Her Step” (samples will appear later in March, 2021)… very unique composition and execution, plus flawless recording make this a tune that jazz DJ’s across the globe will be plugging regularly into their playlists!

You’ll think Count Basie is in your living room as you listen to the 8:18 opener, “Count Me Out“… great tenor sax from Rob Middleton and a very adventurous and unique piano solo from Roberta Piket make it a tune that will be getting a LOT of “replay” action here.

Of the eight tunes offered up for our jazz adventure, it was (unquestionably) the 11:08 title track (also an original from Jon), “Human Qualities“, that got my vote for personal favorite… some of the most intriguing jazz I’ve listened to (yet) in 2021!

I give Jon and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98… get more information on the Summit Records label page for Jon as it becomes available.                        Rotcod Zzaj
