Banyuwangi Putra with Arrington de Dionyso truly exciting world music Osing Trance Banyuwangi – Unheard Indonesia

Banyuwangi Putra with Arrington de Dionyso truly exciting world music Osing Trance Banyuwangi – UNHEARD INDONESIA:  Long-time Olympia residents (like me) and readers of this magazine are well aware of my friend Arrington’s superbly mystical work… I’ve reviewed him in various collaborations and groupings ever since the 1980’s, but over the last few years, he’s been traveling ’round the globe in a BIG way… many players I’ve known (& reviewed, in some cases) make a “deal” out of their one little foray into “the world”… but Arrington goes to ALL CORNERS of the globe in his quest for the ultimate improvisation… though the video below is not (specifically) from this album, it does show his total ability to merge into cultures most of us haven’t even dreamed about yet…

…truly one of the best experimental music videos I’ve ever watched.

The audio version is just as exciting, let me tell you… as you listen to “Bamboo Patrol, Part I“, you will find yourself totally in the rapture of the moment (even if you happen to be a Rep-ugli-can), as the marvelous percussion keeps pace with Arrington’s wild swings on the reeds… I’ve watched him play live in numerous settings, and can say (without qualification) that this is simply stunning!  The intricate percussion intro, and it’s various shifts, on “Bamboo Patrol Part 3“, held me completely spellbound for the entire 11:59 length… masters all here!

If you believe you’re a true “supporter of the arts”, go to the Bandcamp page for this excellent album & purchase several for you, your family and all your friends… the album makes a perfect gift for listeners who love diversity, as well as players who want to explore the “reality” of collaboration with others… the best example of that, and my personal favorite of the five (long) tracks offered up (over an hour’s worth of exciting and challenging listening), is “Banyuwangi children’s gamelan part 1“… nothing is “regular” about this great rhythmic collaboration, & this will send you to the far corners of this world (and other worlds, perhaps).

I give Arrington and his collaborators a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, as well as a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 5.00 – meaning that the album also gets my “PICK” for “best experimental album”!        Rotcod Zzaj
