Deliciously deep saxophone jazz debut Jeff Ellwood – The Sounds Around The House

Deliciously deep saxophone jazz debut Jeff Ellwood – The Sounds Around The House by Jeff Ellwood – THE SOUNDS AROUND THE HOUSE:  This is actually my first listen to the deliciously deep saxophone jazz that Jeff creates, and it’s one of the most rewarding listens I’ve had in 2020.  Though I didn’t see any LIVE videos from this new album, you can get a tantalizing taste of his mastery on this performance of “All Or Nothing At All”…

…you’ll also find several other LIVE performances when you SUBSCRIBE to Jeff’s YouTube channel… I did it right away.

The players are Jeff on tenor sax, Alan Pasqua – Piano; Darek Oles – Bass; Joe LaBarbera – Drums and Bob Sheppard – Saxophone on King Henry… I was especially impressed with Jeff’s high-talent sophistication on tunes like “Old School Blues“; this is a song that jazz DJ’s all across the globe will be putting in constant rotation, I predict!

When it comes to deep and mellow tenor tones, I can honestly say that I haven’t heard a player as well-versed as Jeff on “Agrodolche” (Bittersweet)… Alan’s piano is the perfect counter-match for Jeff’s reed work on this splendid tune.

It was one of the shorter performances (5:27), “The Honeymoon“, that got my vote (immediately) for personal favorite of the nine offered up… robust and high-energy, with perfect recording and flawless execution on each and every note!

I give Jeff and his high-talent players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98 for this excellent debut release.  Get more information on Jeff’s BandCamp page for the album.                              Rotcod Zzaj
