Exquisitely expressive original guitar Gerhard Daum – Songs Without Words

Exquisitely expressive original guitar Gerhard Daum – SONGS WITHOUT WORDS:  When I reviewed Gerhard’s “Rural Renewal” album, I was most impressed with the peaceful sonic sculptures he draws out for the listener, and his new release goes to even newer heights.  There’s a very nice trailer from that earlier album that will give you some intimate insights into his artistry that I recommend you watch…

…be sure to SUBSCRIBE to Gerhard’s YouTube channel, too, so you can watch the many other works he provides there.  He may even put up LIVE performances from this new album, too (hint! hint!).

Gerhard explains his music in the promo sheet that came with the package by saying “each song demonstrates the electric guitar’s eloquence and diversity as a powerful lead instrument in modern times”… the song that best illustrates that power (for this reviewer, anyway) is “Gold Rush“… after a marvelous slow-toned introduction with orchestral strings, at about the 18-second mark, Gerhard segues ever-so-gently into one of the best electric guitar solos you’ve ever heard… I predict that this piece will receive MAJOR airplay on all types of stations around the globe, and wouldn’t be (at all) surprised to see it nominated for an award (& WIN it)… a truly SUPERB piece of music!

As on the previous release, Gerhard plays all the instruments, and I fell in love (right away) with the power he projects through “Gentleman’s Way“… wonderful blends of piano, strings, synth and (of course) guitar leads that just SOAR.

A tune that’s quite a bit more mellow, “Talking Softly“, will bring images of late-night alley-walking & smoky jazz joints like we’ve all frequented before… very nice percussion compliments all the other instruments on this one, too… “think Wes Montgomery”…

Gerhard offers up an even dozen excellent songs for your jazz listening pleasure, and it was apparent to me right away that the 3:38 “Timeless” would be my favorite… as the song title implies, this is music that will stay in your ears for eternities – you’ll find yourself hitting “replay” on this one often… simply WONDERFUL work!

I give Gerhard a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 5.00… that means that he also gets my “PICK” for “most expressive guitar album”.  Get more information on Gerhard’s website.        Rotcod Zzaj
