Sultry soulful jazz vocals Lauren Henderson – Riptide

Sultry soulful jazz vocals Lauren Henderson – RIPTIDE:  Though the title of the album would indicate some amount of “danger”, Lauren’s sultry, soulful jazz vocals explore the swirling tides that can happen during relationships… while it’s not from this album, I strongly recommend you watch her performing in a video from about three months ago to get a feel for her strong talent…

…as you saw, she sings from deep in her heart, and will wrap you in/under her spell easily… be sure to SUBSCRIBE to her YouTube channel, since you’re there already.

Now, on to the review of Lauren’s fourth CD… “Bajito” is one of the tastiest jazz vocals I’ve heard (yet) in 2018… Lauren sings this 5:12 gem with a sense of the mysterious that will hold your ears in an enchanted state, and make you want to hear more… ultra-cool!  She’s got a stellar cast of players with her as well… Chris Pattershall on piano, Rhodes, Wurlitzer and synth; Joe Saylor on percussion; and bassist Eric England… high-talent for sure!

The 3:47 closer, “Slow Control“, will help you “get it back together“… great rhythms on this one, and that “sultriness” I spoke of is right at the forefront of Lauren’s vocal on this fine song!

My personal favorite of the six originals Lauren has offered up for your aural enjoyment is (hands-down) the 4:17 “Separate“… she digs down deep in her soul and tells you about the sorrow of realizing that it’s “over“… I just loved Chris’s piano on this highly emotional tune.

I give Lauren and her players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.98, especially for those who love jazz vocals about life and the living of it… get more information on Lauren’s website.           Rotcod Zzaj
