Richard Dillon innovative fresh exciting compositions Richard Dillon – TERRA INCOGNITO/THE SPACE BETWEEN:  There is one thing I know I can always count on when it comes to Richard’s music… “different” is the keyword for his latest release, no doubt about it… his effervescent, shimmering piano is a mainstay, of course, but on this new effort, he’s woven “colors” in and through his works, as you’ll hear on the marvelous “Green Flash Redux“… as I listen to this, it’s easy to remember the first time I watched the wonder of the Aurora Borealis… a superb composition with perfect pacing.

Shorter pieces, like “In Search of Chocolate“, remind me of my (ever-so-brief) sojourn as an “ice-cream truck” guy, for some reason… the percussion he’s wound in and around the bell sounds, strings and other instruments give the tune a real feeling of exploration of spaces… brilliant writing and playing.

The “extra” background sounds Richard weaves through and around his piano on “Into the Mines” are totally intriguing… when the violin chimes in at around the 1:35 mark, you’ll hear and feel the drudgery that can come with working under the ground… I can easily see this composition being recommended and chosen for awards!

The album clocks in at an hour and sixteen minutes, with twenty-four songs offered up; you will find something exciting on each of the songs, as Richard creates new atmospheres (worlds, even) with songs like the highly enchanting “Dust Devil“… be sure and reserve the entire hour or so to listen to this in isolation, so you can catch every little nuance of Richard’s creative genius.

On “Lead Kindly Night“, there’s a vocal performance that will carry you back to different times in a most pleasant way… totally unique songs by Richard that reveal new sides to his artistic genius.

I had to listen through a couple of times, since there are so many songs, but it is without doubt the 6:00 “Voyager” that held me totally spellbound… definitely my favorite song on the album… this is one of the freshest songs I’ve heard (yet) in 2018.

Richard gets a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from me for this splendid journey into the unknown, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.99.  Get more information about Richard at his ABOUT page.          Rotcod Zzaj
