Opera that grooves Angela’s Ring – An Opera Review of the European Debt Crisis

Opera that grooves Angela’s Ring – AN OPERA REVIEW OF THE EUROPEAN DEBT CRISIS:  As I listen to this double-CD from Kabir Sehgal, which features opera that grooves, I’m definitely reminded of some of the zanier productions I watched live from the master of mayhem, Frank Zappa… there are no live videos of the CD tracks, as it doesn’t go live until March 19th, 2021, but to get an up-close & personal view of Kabir, watch this video from his “Quarantine film series” first…

You’ll find MANY other interesting videos when you SUBSCRIBE to Kabir’s YouTube channel, as did I.

Kabir’s background as a corporate strategist for a global payments tech firm may have something to do with why he created this strangely attractive CD that uses opera performance to highlight (in a most humorous way) Angela Merkel’s “handling” of the European debt crisis… radio broadcast clips from news anchors are skillfully integrated with opera singers and truly amazing jazz performances by bassist Kabir, pianist Marie Contrera and The Leveraged Jazz Orchestra!

Some listeners may find this a challenge, but Grace Kelly’s superb saxophone work (as well as the other players) will make this a very enjoyable for jazz listeners around the globe… in fact, after listening through twice, I found this to be among my favorite “different” musical experiences (yet) in 2021.

I give Kabir and all his players a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.97.  Get more information at Kabir’s website as it becomes available.                   Rotcod Zzaj
