Multi talent jazz vocal/trumpet Augie Haas – Dream A Little Dream

Multi talent jazz vocal/trumpet Augie Haas – DREAM A LITTLE DREAM:  Each musician we review here has their own talent, but it’s quite rare when we get a jazz trumpet player who also does his own vocals… this is my first exposure to Augie’s multi-talent jazz vocal/trumpet work, but I can guarantee it won’t be the last… I didn’t see any live-action videos from the current album, but if you SUBSCRIBE to Augie’s YouTube channel, you’ll find many from previous performances there.  There was one video that got “up close & personal” with Augie, & I recommend you check it out:

Since the release won’t hit the stands until late-August, 2019, I’ll come back and add the sample links in when told they are available, but in the meantime, I can tell you that tunes like “Goody Goody” demonstrate the kind of high-energy vibe that prevails throughout Augie’s album… I predict that this song will be getting some MAJOR airplay on jazz stations ’round the globe!

Augie has a stellar crew of players with him – too long to itemize here, so check them out here… I totally dug the piano intro on the classic “Blackbird”, and Augie’s trumpet makes for a most pleasant listen… you’ll be hitting “replay” often.

There’s some excellent organ work on “Will You Still Love Me”… strings are nice, but what really stands out is Augie’s singing… mighty mellow, & every note is right on time!

Of the eleven “comfort” songs Augie offers up, I found “Ooh Child” to be my personal favorite… his horn solo at the 3:50 mark is superbly full of soul.

I give Augie and his cast of players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.97.  Get more information on Augie’s website.     Rotcod Zzaj
