Captivating vocal jazz creativity Kelley Johnson – Something Good

Captivating vocal jazz creativity Kelley Johnson – SOMETHING GOOD:  There are a LOT of jazz vocalists who get reviewed in our pages, but I can say (without qualification) that Kelley’s work is some of the most captivating vocal jazz creativity I’ve ever listened to!  You’ll realize that (right away) as you listen to her treatment of “Goodbye To Love“… you’ll find yourself just wrapped into her spell.

I didn’t find a specific Channel on YouTube for Kelley, but I did spot the following video that features her husband John Hansen’s keyboard work on “‘Tis Autumn” (he’s one of my favorite jazz pianists in the Great Northwest, by the way)…

In addition to Kelley’s superb jazz vocal stylings and John’s piano, you’ll also hear bassist Michael Glynn, drummer Kendrick Scott and multi-instrumentalist Jay Thomas… great players all, and when they put it all together for you, you’ll be stunned, especially as you listen to Kelley’s performance of the 5:26 “Lullaby of Birdland“… I have no doubt that this song will be getting MAJOR airplay on jazz stations across & around the globe!

It was definitely the title track & closer, “Something Good“, that won my choice for personal favorite of the ten superb vocals Kelley offers up for your aural pleasure.  Her vocal pacing is exquisite, and I believe the song is worthy of an award, to be sure.

I give Kelley and her players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99.  Get more information on Kelley’s website.     Rotcod Zzaj
