Rapid ignition free improv masterpiece Trapper Keaper – Meets Tim Berne & Aurora Nealand

Rapid ignition free improv masterpiece Trapper Keaper – MEETS TIM BERNE & AURORA NEALAND:  What we (definitely) have here, folks is a “failure to conform-i-cate“… in other words, the rapid ignition free improv that Trapper Keaper (keyboardist William Thompson and drummer Marcello Benetti) has put together with Aurora Nealand (alto sax, accordion, various percussive elements & screaming) with her eclectic spoken-word, and Tim Berne, master of alto saxophone, will NOT conform to anything you’ve ever heard (in your lifetime) before… to get a “real taste” of just what fantastic things they do together, just scope out their video of “Boom“…

…as you saw (& heard), there is (absolutely) NOTHING that conforms to what the “blue meanies” would proclaim to be “normal” on this tune… be sure to SUBSCRIBE to the “Ears & Eyes Records” channel, so you can see & watch more aural antics, too!

The publishers have also given us an “exclusive” preview of the latest single from the album, “Unidentified Flying Objection” (other samples are not yet available, but I will come back and add them in as soon as I’m told they’ve gone live – around 12 April, 2019)… the vocal mayhem Aurora generates on this piece makes it absolutely worth the purchase of the album, I’ll tell you (for those who don’t know it, I got my start in spoken-word performance, and this is among the best I’ve (ever) heard)… the sax on this one lays the groundwork for a superb sonic adventure… I just LOVED this piece!

If you’ve ever experienced “flashbacks” (chemically induced or elsewise), you’ll have a brand new set of them as you dig down deep into “Leaky Faucet“… you can even hear the rusty plumbing fixtures doing “call & response” ’round Williams’ keyboard on this acidic experience… what I most enjoy about this excellent piece is that the group demonstrates their knowledge of the KEY ingredient in great improv – they have FUN with it.

My personal favorite of the ten musical oddities offered up, though, is the amazing title track (also the longest on the album, clocking in at 7:18), “Trapper Keaper Meets Tim and Aurora“… the penetrating percussion, soaring sax lines and beautifully brazen electronic signatures these folks have woven in here definitely bring back memories of performances I’ve watched my pals Davey Williams, Wally Shoup and LaDonna Smith do back the day… this is absolutely the BEST improvised work I’ve heard (yet) in 2019.

I give Trapper Keaper & their fellow “odd-ists” a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 5.00… which means they also get my “PICK” for “most penetrating improv album”.  Get more information on the Bandcamp page for the release.           Rotcod Zzaj
