…which, of course, I fell in love with right away… what an important document for those who love improvisation!
I’ve reviewed Peter’s work before, of course, most recently in issue # 164, but this quintet formation is full of the vim & vigor of life that truly “on-the-fly” music can make happen… I pointed out in that review that I am (quite simply) amazed by the quality of the recording… far above the bar for improvised music recordings!
After listening through this two or three times (it’s nearly an hour long), I had no problem in selecting my personal favorite of the three long tracks offered up on this album… “The Way Out (Is In)” is one of the most accessible (and collectible, I might add) pieces of improvisation I’ve heard (yet) in 2018. I give this fantastic quartet a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 5.00 – meaning it also gets my “PICK” for “best improv quintet”.
