Stunningly beautiful contemporary piano John Otott – UNSPOKEN: I was absolutely in awe of John’s beautiful contemporary piano work on his “Colors” album, reviewed in issue # 159; his new release is equally (if not MORE) stunning. Though I didn’t find any “LIVE” videos from this album, there is an older clip I enjoyed that will give you some great insight into his playing style…
…he has quite a few other videos posted, too, so be sure to SUBSCRIBE to his YouTube channel while you’re there.
His “Sunrise in Avalon” features brightly rolling chords that will bring you all the joy of rising to new vistas that give you every bit of hope you will need to continue on your path… simple, yet WONDERFUL music that will appeal to listeners of every persuasion! I predict that this powerful piece will be getting MAJOR airplay across the globe!
The players he has accompanying him are certainly in the “stellar” range, too (all the “usual” players for Will Ackerman’s studio)… guitarist Will Ackerman; violinist Charlie Bisharat; cellist Eugene Friesen; percussionist Jeff Haynes and flugelhorn player Jeff Oster all work together to make this one of the most accessible albums I’ve listened to (yet) in 2019… you will hear their complete expertise as you get deep down into one of my favorite piano-led compositions ever… “Unbreakable” uses very unique pacing on the introduction, then swirls into a glorious celebration of the universal endurance of sonic wonder… I wouldn’t be (at all) surprised to see this piece nominated for (and WINNING) an award.
My choice for personal favorite of the nine songs offered up for your aural enjoyment is the beautiful “As Now, As Then“… the strings accompanying John’s marvelous keyboards are majestic, to be sure… you will find yourself listening to this tune over and over again.
A very impressive album that gets my MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, and an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99. If you love piano as much as I do, this will be on your “MUST HAVE” list. Get more information on John’s website. Rotcod Zzaj
