Masterfully intriguing jazz tales Malnoia – Hello Future

Masterfully intriguing jazz tales Malnoia – HELLO FUTURE:  What makes this album from pianist Jorn Swart and his colleagues Benni von Gutzeit (viola) and Lucas Pino (bass clarinet) stand out from all the rest is the masterfully intriguing jazz tales they tell… you can get an up-close and personal look at their performance styles by watching this trailer video for the opening track on the album, “First Ocean” (audio samples not available until closer to the release date, 19 March, 2021)…

Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to Jorn’s YouTube channel, so you can relish the many other videos available there… I signed up right away.

I found the unique combination of piano, viola, and bass clarinet to be most attractive and full of flexibility that other jazz trios seldom have, especially on tunes like “Choro Humano” (Human Cry)… it feels like a celebration of life and the living from the opening note… I especially enjoyed Jorn’s piano on this performance!

“Timesaver3050” will take you into a space that gives you a sense of “chamber music“, but with an underlying current of jazz motion and human emotion… I (most strongly) advise that you listen to this piece with your headphones on, so you can catch every nuance of the conversation between the players.

The short (2:52) “Prelude to Singularity” will transport you to the edge of infinity with its dense, rich tones… stark contrasts between Jorn’s piano and the other players that feel somewhat ethereal, but are deeply rooted in our mutual experiences… I just LOVED this performance!

Of the eleven brilliant originals offered up, I found the 5:36 “Tubifoot” was my absolute favorite… the trio uses their collective musical genius to tell a story that has elements of both sadness and joy… flawless recording and perfect execution of each note leaves you with a sense of hope for this future we will all share together.  A most “timely” tune, I’d say.

I give Malnoia a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with a (perfect) “EQ” of 5.00… meaning that they also receive a “PICK” from me for “most intriguing original album”.  Get more information on the Outside In Music page for the release.       Rotcod Zzaj
