Zzaj Productions entering the fourth decade Zzaj Productions – OVER THIRTY YEARS OF MUSIC: I am so happy to announce that we have just entered our FOURTH DECADE of great and inspiring music! I got my start around 1987, with a paper magazine (at that time) called IMPROVIJAZZATION NATION… in those early years, most of the submissions for review were from home tapers… folks like Bret Harold Hart, Harlan Mark Vale and a whole host of others were sending me scads of material for review… it was total inspiration, and helped me to create my own music, too (you can download most of that for free from my Zzaj Productions Archive pages).
I’ve been through a LOT of things in my many years (I just turned 71 last September), and it’s been the MUSIC that has always kept me moving forward… of course, that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of players, promoters and lots of listeners in search of music that can heal and inspire in the coming years.
IMPROVIJAZZATION NATION magazine went online around 1995, and I have captured nearly all the issues that were published… there were a couple that I didn’t have paper copies of, so it wasn’t possible to add them in to my ANCIENT ARCHIVE. I can’t say how many records, CD’s and tapes were reviewed in those issues, but it was somewhere around 5000, I believe.
With the encouragement of my son (here in Olympia), as well as a couple of the promoters on the scene (you know who you are), I started a new magazine in 2016… it’s called CONTEMPORARY FUSION REVIEWS, and highlights only the best artists in music from all genres… you can learn more by visiting the ABOUT pages for the new magazine.
I have never stopped loving the magic that music can bring into our world, and will continue to write about music on into the 4th decade (& who knows, maybe the 5th, lol). I also want to THANK all the wonderful folks who have supported my efforts over the last 30+ years in so many ways… it is YOU and the READERS who have kept me inspired to continue my journeys in music! p.s.
