Tastefully tantalizing musical call to action Joseph Herbst Sextet – This Is Our Environment

Tastefully tantalizing musical call to action Joseph Herbst Sextet – THIS IS OUR ENVIRONMENT:  My first forays into spoken-word and jazz were in the Great Northwest, where many artists united to bring focus to the day’s issues… on saxophonist/composer Joseph’s tastefully tantalizing musical call to action, he zeroes in on our need to work together to do everything we can to help our environment… to get a LIVE taste of the professionalism Joseph and his players bring to bear on that issue, I (most strongly) suggest you watch this trailer for the album first…

You can view MANY more excellent videos when you SUBSCRIBE to Joseph’s YouTube channel, too.

The main players are Joseph on alto and soprano sax; Evan Taylor doing trumpet & flugelhorn; Luther S. Allison on piano & Rhodes; Zach McKinney’s drums; Peter Martin playing guitar and Liany Mateo on bass… many featured guests as well… Aubrey Johnson does vocals; Dasan Ahanu, Cynthia ‘THiA’ Sharpe, Yexandra ‘Yex’ Diaz and RaShad Eas offer up some very pertinent spoken word performances that I thoroughly enjoyed… one of the most powerful performances I’ve listened to (yet) in 2021 is the 4:38 “Estrange Us“… jazz changes through&through, but as you enjoy it, you realize that what Joseph and his players are really doing is weaving beautiful stories together for you… I predict that DJ’s around the globe will be putting this beautiful tune in regular rotations!

I’ve always loved spoken-word performances, and as I mentioned previously, that’s where I got my own start (here in Olympia, Washington)… on “Momma Nature” Dasan tells the tale that helps us to understand how important it is that we respect our environment – and stop polluting it.

There was plenty of room for each of the players to “speak their piece” on “Make No Cents” (it clocks in at 9:40)… the piece exemplifies the talent that Joseph really has, too… wrapping the listener in with musical genius and the ability to convey how important it is that we stand together – with his music… it is (without question) my personal favorite of the fourteen songs offered up for our jazz enjoyment!

I give Joseph and all his players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this very important album.  Get more information on Joseph’s page for the release.                                                    Rotcod Zzaj
