Stunning sonic suite Joanne Lazzaro – Suite Esmerelda for flute and piano

Stunning sonic suite Joanne Lazzaro – SUITE ESMERELDA FOR FLUTE AND PIANO:  Music that holds sweet memories for the artist is usually the best kind, and this stunning sonic suite from flutist Joanne goes way back for her… her friend Eric V. Baum composed the three-movement suite based on Claude Bolling’s “Suite for Flute & Jazz Piano”… before I start on my review, though, I strongly recommend that you check out this video of her live session in Spring, 2020…

You’ll find many more invigorating performances when you SUBSCRIBE to Joanne’s YouTube channel… I did it right away.

On her new album, Joanne is joined by Bryan Pezzone on piano; Miller Wrenn playing bass and Ellington Peet on drums (tracks 4, 5 & 6), and as you listen to the sweet gentleness on “Shabbat” (I’ll come back and add the sample links as soon as I’m told the album has gone live), you’ll realize the sheer talent Joanne has for sharing her feelings through her magical flute playing; I especially enjoyed the “side 2” version, which includes drums.  I predict that this powerful song will be getting a lot of airplay across the globe!

The flute introduction to “Stone Ridge Rag” (on side 1) will give you visions of wild country dancing, and when Bryan’s piano joins in, you’ll be high-steppin’ for sure… what this song conveys for me is what needs to be the prime ingredient in all music – FUN!

I had no problem making my choice for personal favorite of the six lively songs offered up… “Dance of the Snowbound Grasshopper” vividly brings to life the song title, and will have you up on your feet by the second bar, dancing right along with the grasshopper… the 6:28 length gives each player plenty of time to give expression to their feelings in the moment.

Joanne and her players get a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this most enjoyable EP.  Get more information on Joanne’s page for the release.              Rotcod Zzaj
