Positively personal jazz stories Diane Schuur – Running on Faith

Positively personal jazz stories Diane Schuur – RUNNING ON FAITH:  When a jazz vocalist is also able to play an instrument, the CD goes UP in my estimation… on this May, 2020, album full of positively personal jazz, Diane plays piano – brilliantly – she’s joined by Ernie Watts – tenor and soprano saxophone; Kye Palmer – trumpet and flugelhorn; Thom Rotella – guitar; Bruce Lett – acoustic bass; Kendall Kay – drums (Produced by Ernie Watts and Diane Schuur; Executive Producer Leon Becken)… a truly spectacular jazz session.

Though I didn’t see any LIVE videos from the new release, you can witness a soul-stirring blues performance by Diane on this video…

…you’ll want to be sure to SUBSCRIBE to Diane’s YouTube channel, where you’ll find many more performances – I did, right away.

On the new release, you’ll hear all forms of jazz and blues; one that really struck me is the gospel tune “Way Over Yonder” (samples not available until early May, 2020)… Diane makes it VERY clear that she understands what soul is really all about on this fantastic performance!

Diane’s rendition of Miles “All Blues” is among the best I’ve ever heard… the whole band just SHINES on this one… I’ve no doubt that DJ’s ’round the world will be spinning this one over and over again (as will I); Thom’s guitar lead on this tune is full of life and the living of it.

After my second listen through the album, it was easy to choose the song that would be my personal favorite of the thirteen offered up… “Chicken” is one of the most upbeat & swingin’ jazz tunes I’ve heard (yet) in 2020 – the whole band is COOKIN’ on this song!

I give Diane and all her bandmates a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99.  Get more information on Diane’s page on Jazzheads records as it becomes available.              Rotcod Zzaj
