Making quiet good Matthew Labarge – FROM THE LONG QUIET: It’s been a bit since I reviewed Matthew’s splendid piano work on his “MUSIC OF THE EXTRAORDINARY VOYAGES” (as Larkenlyre), where he got high marks from me… I didn’t find LIVE videos, but you can get a very clear idea of his magical “pacing” when you check out this song from an earlier album…
…you will also find several of his albums when you SUBSCRIBE to the Matthew Labarge topic channel on YouTube… I did it right away.
The new album doesn’t release until 1 October, 2020, so samples aren’t available yet (I will come back and add those links in when Matthew tells me they are LIVE)… one of the things Matthew said to me about the new album in private correspondence resonated very firmly with me… “I feel strongly that this is an album that’s needed at this moment in time“… you will be a believer in that when you listen to the simply titled “Quiet”…even with headphones on (which I definitely recommend for the entire album, at least for your first sitting), you will be anticipating each powerful chord and note… if any song should be considered for an award, folks – this is IT!
There are some listeners who equate “energy” only with Rock & Roll, or full-tilt jazz… they are sadly mistaken, I’ll tell you right now… as you listen to the marvelous chords and overtones on the opener, “Begin”, you will realize that Matthew’s entire being is focused clearly on showing the power of a well-placed note (or a well-placed “silence”, perhaps)… a song you won’t soon forget.
Not one song (yet) this year merits the appreciation I have for Matthew’s “Cathedral”… it is (absolutely) my personal favorite of the nine contemplative sonic wonders offered up to us. I just loved the sweeping orchestral environment on this one, and have no doubt you will, too!
I give Matthew a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this most memorable album. Get more information on Matthew’s website. Rotcod Zzaj
