An absolute KILLER player lineup, too… Band leaders are Dave Morgan and Rob Susman… Alto saxophones Chris Hemingway, Charles Lee; Tenor saxophones: Stan Killian, John Isley; Baritone saxophone and Flute: Dave Morgan; Trombones: Rob Susman, Scott Burrows; Trumpets: Seneca Black, Chris Anderson, Bryan Davis, Jordan Hirsch; Guitar: Noel Cohen; Bass: Dan Asher; Percussion: Rex Benincasa; Drums: Peter Grant, and you’ll “grok” their down & funky energy on great tunes like Susman’s original, “Into the Fourth Dimension”… when the bass kicks in (at about the one-minute mark), the song truly takes you OUT there!
Asher’s bass solo on the intro to “Professional Development” (composed by Dave Morgan) is some of the funkiest playing I’ve heard (yet) in 2020, and the recording is flawless… a great way to start off your jazz New Year.
Of the ten tantalizing tunes they offer up, it was the closer, “Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky”, that grabbed my vote for personal favorite… it’s only 3:22, & I predict that will make it a favorite for DJ’s, too… it’ll be getting MASSIVE airplay!
