Jazz freed from jazz Jungsu Choi Tiny Orkester – Tschüss Jazz Era

Jazz freed from jazz Jungsu Choi Tiny Orkester – TSCHUSS JAZZ ERA:  “Tschüss” means “goodbye” in Germany, which is where this 12-piece group performed it for the first time in December, 2017… a great CD that, according to bandleader Jungsu Choi, features Korea’s best jazz musicians, and allows “jazz to be freed from jazz”, so to speak… Jinho Pyo (Male Voice), Eunmi Kim (Flute), Yusun Nam (Alto sax), Hachul Song (Tenor sax), Yejung Kim (Trumpet), Junyeon Lee (Trombone), Jungyun Ahn (Cello), Sungyun Hong (Guitar), Jungmin Lee (Piano), Inseob Song (Bass), Hyunsu Lee (Drums) all work together to amaze your ears, particularly on tunes like the stunning 7:59 opener, “Stolen Yellow“… Choi-si (Mr. Choi) wrote marvelous arrangements… the guitar really stands out on this piece, but (on the other hand), each of the players has their opportunity to shine.

Some readers here still aren’t aware of it, but I spent around fifteen years of my life in Korea, so I got to watch the Korean jazz scene evolve into the absolute powerhouse it really is… don’t just “take my word for it”, though.. watch this AMAZING video – it speaks for itself…

…like it or not – this IS the NEW JAZZ!  Packs a walloping punch, and you’ll find yourself watching & listening to it over & over again… and be SURE you SUBSCRIBE to their YouTube channel!

I’m telling you right now folks – this CD is a WINNER… in fact, I predict that it will be recommended for (and WIN) several awards – it should certainly be considered for best jazz orchestra… & I can’t emphasize it strongly enough – this IS the NEW JAZZ!

My personal favorite of the five (long) tracks offered up is the 8:06 “What If Ellington Didn’t Take The ‘A’ Train?“… well, ah, I don’t know… & I doubt the Duke would have either, but rather than rollin’ over in his grave, he’s no doubt clappin’ his hands BIG-time for this SUPERB composition – and the recording is PERFECTLY FLAWLESS!

I give the Jungsu Choi Tiny Orkester a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 5.00 – that means, of course, that it also gets my “PICK” for “best jazz freed from jazz album”.  You can get more information about this high-talent group at Mr. Choi’s website.           Rotcod Zzaj
