Invigorating Japanese jazz Akira Tana and Otonowa

Invigorating Japanese jazz Akira Tana and Otonowa – AI SAN SAN (LOVE’S RADIANCE):  Absolutely invigorating jazz from Japanese drum maestro Akira that gives you nearly an hour’s worth of stimulating and well-performed jazz!  You can get an intimate look at the album’s development in the trailer Akira created for the album…

…be sure and SUBSCRIBE to his TOPIC, too; you’ll find LOTS more interesting videos to absorb and enjoy.

The title track alone makes the album well worth purchasing… “Ai San San” starts off in a “gentle zone”, but becomes evermore full-bodied as it progresses through the full 5:59 length… the Shakuhachi flute is simply beautiful on this composition.  I’ve NO doubt that this will be getting airplay ’round the globe soon!

In addition to Akira’s amazing drum work as leader, you’ll also hear Masaru Koga on Sax, Flute, Shakuhachi & Percussions; Art Hirahara doing Piano; Noriyuki “Ken” Okada playing Bass, with Saki Kono and Chie Sugiyams as guest vocalists; they will absolutely WOW you on high-energy tunes like the opener, “Antagata Dokosa”… Koga’s sax work on this is just KILLER… definitely one of my favorite jazz songs (yet) for 2019.

The song that (easily) won my vote for personal favorite of the eleven offered up is also the longest on the album… the title alone, “Tethered Fisherman’s Flag” (Tsunagareta Tairyo-Bata in Japanese), provides satisfying images for the listener right away, and as the piece progresses, exciting changes abound.  I believe this piece will win a jazz AWARD.

This is some of the best jazz I’ve listened to (yet) in 2019, and I give it a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of a (perfect) 5.00 – meaning it also gets my “PICK” for “best cross-cultural jazz album”.  Get more information on Akria’s website.             Rotcod Zzaj
