Invaluable collector album Roger Kellaway Trio

Invaluable collector album Roger Kellaway Trio – THE MANY OPEN MINDS OF ROGER KELLAWAY:  I can’t tell you how many times Roger’s high energy piano jazz has been reviewed here (he goes too far back with us), but I can tell you (without qualification) that his new release is definitely an invaluable collector album… he’s joined by Bruce Forman on guitar and Dan Lutz on bass, and they make the jazz come alive.

There’s a YouTube channel up, but I’d recommend that you visit his VIDEO page instead, because there are a lot more performances there.

Samples won’t be available for a bit, as this is officially a 1 November, 2019 release, but I can tell you right now that tunes like the opener, “52nd Street Theme” will just WOW your ears… Roger’s fingers are like lightning on the keyboard, and the rest of the trio is equally high-energy.  I predict this tune will be getting some MAJOR airplay!

The trio’s performance of Brubeck’s “Take Five” is different than any other rendition you’ve ever heard… they truly OWN this one.

It’s only fitting that Roger and his pals closed the album with my pick for personal favorite, “Caravan” (by Juan Tizol and Duke Ellington)… again, Roger’s piano leads are absolutely SMOKIN’, and each of the players get their chance to shine on the 9:56 tune.  I’ll go so far as to say that this is my favorite performance EVER of this jazz classic!

I give Roger and his playmates a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this fine release.  Get more information on the Roger Kellaway website.          Rotcod Zzaj
