Hauntingly intimate guitar artistry Charlie Rauh

Hauntingly intimate guitar artistry Charlie Rauh – HIRAETH:  I recently reviewed an album that featured Charlie and Cameron Mizell, titled “What We Have In Common“… very impressive, indeed, as my review says.  A pleasant result from doing that review is that Charlie reached out to me about this new release, due to go live in October, 2019… so, you won’t find the samples posted up yet (I’ll come back and add them in as soon as Charlie tells me they’ve gone live).

A really interesting video featuring Charlie’s guitar to provide sonic illustration to his sister Christina Rauh Fishburne’s miniature handmade books is the best way for you to become familiar with his hauntingly intimate guitar artistry, methinks…

…as you heard, Charlie’s “pacing” is absolute perfection… not a rushed note anywhere, and his music “tells the story” just as the books do (just FYI, the booklets come with your purchase of the album, too).  I highly recommend that you SUBSCRIBE to Charlie’s YouTube channel, where you’ll find many more intriguing performances – I did.

The opener for the album is the title track, “Hiraeth” (a Welsh word meaning “Longing for a place or a point in time that cannot be returned to, and possibly never existed”) , which kind of sets up the mood for the entire sonic experience… if you weren’t in a nostalgic frame of mind when you started listening… you WILL be… I find myself listening back through this tune often!

“Fanø” is a small island that Charlie visited during a European tour… the harmonics on this piece are stellar, and will have you going back through it over and over again to make sure you didn’t miss any of the mystery the song evokes.

One of the most sparse (and to the point) songs I’ve listened to (yet) in 2019 is “Eleven Seventeen”… it’s focused on what one remembers about a first encounter – before words are even exchanged… not your “usual” solo guitar fare, but it is absolutely my personal favorite of the nine Charlie offers up for your aural adventure!

I give Charlie a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.99 for this totally engaging guitar solo release.  Get more information about Charlie at the Charlie Rauh website.              Rotcod Zzaj
